'KERCHING!!!'
Nice one. Not had any in Bristol yet. Freeze ups have gone out of fashion in recent years. Hopefully people have got complacent and the urgent, big money weekend callouts of yesteryear will be back.

That's a fair old backplate on that first pic Pushfit fittings outside? more people should be encouraged to use them outside, nice easy repair jobs when it gets cold

I've never seen a tap fail like that it's always the pipework I find gives up the ghost first.

I've never seen a tap fail like that it's always the pipework I find gives up the ghost first. The pipe work was insulated but the tap wasn't,

the worst one I ever seen was in the christmas break of 1965/66, we came back to work on an industrial installation I was on and a 2 inch brass gate valve was split in half, the water was still frozen so no water damage was done, the power of ice is Eminence, Edit, the above date should be 1995/96, I was't even working in 1965/6

Bloody hell I forgot to shut the water to my outside tap (and I usually insulate with an old rag). On the plus side, at least I can call on Daftys Bathrooms & Kitchens if I need to.

Not had any bursts (as of yet) or snow even over here. It's very cold so plenty of signs that this years "plumbers harvest" is on it's way!! 4% is the volume that water increases by when it freezes - It moves mountains and shapes continents.. A 15mm push fit or a 2" gate valve stands no chance of surviving !

C’mon!! I was working in -6C the other day, you southern softies lock yourselves indoors at the first snowflake!! As one famous Scotsman once said; there’s no such thing as bad weather, only the wrong clothes!!
