I'm looking to move "inspection" chamber for the waste from the middle of my garden to nearer the house. Only reason is to put a pond there. I've looked on the .gov site, but can't find anything. Apart from the work involved sealing the original up, and making a new one, does anyone know a reason I can't move it?

Am I picking this up correctly by assuming this is just for your waste before joining the main sewer?

Yes Battle. The pipe disappears under the Gared, (garage/shed hybrid) I built. There is a t off from it, but it terminates over the top of next doors wall, so not sure what is happening there, as it was blanked off!

Thanks Battle. The cover is square, with brick. The property is late Victorian, but the waste is/looks far more modern. Clay pipe? The garden is on a decline, so as long as I cut into the pipe. I should be ok...Ahem

Have you lifted the lid mate? They’re often sited at a change in direction of the drain.
I’d lift the lid, run water in the house & confirm the direction of all connections. With age if the property, frankly, anything possible when it’s drains, they could be coming from anywhere!!

Thanks Dick, I've already done that, and unfortunately it is "live". It does change direction. My original plan was to re-build the crumbling brickwork, and raise it a couple of courses. Getting rid of it would make for a nicer and bigger pond though. A project for later, need to sort the house out first...

Are you building the Pond over the drain?

The cover will be higher than the water level Dick, probably near 4', which could make access a bit awkward. Another reason I'd like to move it. I think a sunny day, kango, and a few beers will see me digging up the concrete "patio"! Yes, the pond will be over the drain, as it runs down the middle of the garden.
