It's like a Lego set and it suits the lesser plumber that can't cut it with the elite group.

contractors who do, hospitals, public building, timber frame dwellings all favour it because there is no fire risk and it looks neater than push fit, Us one man bands who have to compete price wise, use soldered fittings,

I've no doubt that in 20 years time this stuff will be obsolete along with all the fittings.
Seen this happen many times before (right now though it's very in for new builds).
The "Polyorc" of the future?

20 years ago fusion plastic was ' all the rage' its not used anymore and what was fitted has been replaced, Crowsfoot might be right because, its not cheap, you need special tools, that are also, not cheap, the good ole copper pipe 'n endfeed are cheap, BUT you need a trained person to get it right, they're trying to de grade a plumbers worth, which will never happen, plumbing is much more that joining pipes,

The "Polyorc" of the future? I agree, it'll go the same way as many things have gone. Many people had VHS tapes but who had the rival...... Betamax?!!! Attachment DeletedReminds me of how large that pressfit gadget is!

Surely is a lot faster than soldering and comes with the same benefits ? Presumably that's why the new build industry likes them?
Doesn't look good for repairs though - the machines look big and clumsy to get into a tight corner where most repairs seem to be located !

Companies get taken over, some go bankrupt and that funny sized plastic with a low profit margin and specialised fittings gets withdrawn from circulation leaving miles of the stuff in use and a huge problem for the plumber.
This as always been the problem with plastics because there as never been any standardisation of it - each company making their own brand a slightly different size on purpose so that you can't use a different brand on the one that you're using.

It’s a bit like the plumber losing the skill of lead work

I’m on New Builds most of the time, its pushfit plastic & endfeed on copper. Pressfit is too expensive for house bashers & to ‘gear up’ for it with the number of Sites & Plumbers we have would be silly money!! Plus National Builders get direct kickbacks from Plastic Manufacturers in the form of ‘Rebates’, but it’s unlikely the copper fittings manufacturers would do that. So it’s unlikely to change.
As for me personally, I’ve used it, think it’s slow & clumbsy. Has an O ring the same as Pushfit, so where’s the advantage?? Endfeed fittings are neat & reliable.

And presumably they're not rated for gas either?

And presumably they're not rated for gas either? Oh you can get Gas Pressfit fitting Dafty, but they’re even more expensive. The so called puritans in the industry(course cowboys living in affluent areas) tend to use them, but End Feed is the reality for most of us👍👍
