Hello
What are your views about putting a 210lt unvented cylinder up in a loft?
Customer has traditional open vent at the moment but wants that gone & indirect unvented in the loft with a new compact boiler up there?
Would the weight of the cylinder be ok? I’ve seen people reinforce up there to spread the load.
I thought I’d ask before I speak to my mate as he’ll need to do the boiler.
Cheers all

I was just looking at horizontal ones to spread the load more.

It would have to be supported over a load bearing wall and it would be fine,

To ask a dafty question does that mean you don't need to be gassafe plus unvented to install one ? Or just that lots of people do without the ticket?
Only asking because its one of those things I'd love to learn more about and possibly install / explode the loft.

I've seen a set up similar to what your after Rocky and they had a full platform constructed - heavy duty joist across the loft joists with a base drain as the original tank had a slow leak and cause damage to various areas of the property, as they had original tank only on 1" board spreading the weight across the loft joist - the movement pulled the pipe work apart.

Why bother?? An Unvented May deliver 20Ltr/min, depending on incoming mains water Flow Rate & Pressure, you’re storing a load of hot water why?
A 40KW combi will deliver 16-18Ltr/min, no storage & no weight problems. There’s a lot less hot water used in homes now, cold fill Dishwashers & Washing Machines, plus, most people have showers at 40-44degrees C.
Most Builders are fitting large combis, even in 4-5 Bedroom houses.

that makes sense to me Dick, I've always been a combi worshiper, heat only the water you need and no waiting for cylinder recovery for the next shower/bath, its a win win situation,

Currently got a vented but its a large 200l well insulated one. Compared to the previous that was also furred up due to hard water (I now soften the water) it is much faster - maybe 2 or 3 times.
Still I do see the point about the combi. That said, if you did have a big house and wanted a power shower, are there any combis that can say do 30 l/min ? Maybe you'd need two of them?

combi's and multi hot water outputs have always been an issue, unvented will deliver better multi hot water outputs but. only at a premium price and not always worth the extra, Management of the house is the key, don't all shower at the same time,

I guess it a generational thing, we’d a Bath on a Sunday night - if we needed it or not. But kids these days can have two showers a day!!

My only problem with combi is when it goes down you lose heat & hot water otherwise they’re ok.
