Made what I think was a mistake buying this from Wickes. www.wickes.co.uk/Wickes-White-Gloss-Vanity-Unit---455mm/p/199697I got it for 60. Is it normal for the cabinet itself not to attach to the wall or do I have to buy my own brackets? The sink itself fits on two Z type bracket (one missing) but it also sits back about 8mm from the back. i.e if the sink is flush to the wall, then the cabinet has about an 8mm gap. Guess I could silicone that but thinking is it secure enough without cabinet independently attached to the wall?

I'd get some right angled brackets to secure the cabinet to the wall, just in case.

I usually screw them to the wall using the cross piece, if its 8mm off the wall I use two bits of copper pipe 8mm long as packing pieces.

I've seen similar units installed with (adhesive) side filler trims which come with the unit, basically allowing you to scribe the trim to match poor wall work to give a tidy install look.

A tiled splashback will take up the 8mm gap.

As Tom says above, there's usually a decent wooden brace at the back, if there's no brackets I've secured to the wall with a couple of screw through the brace into the wall.

Thanks a lot all - some great tips there !
Just released though the cross piece isn't at the back but set forward so might have to be brackets. So the sink is set back 8mm and the cross piece is set forward maybe 40mm. Not great really.
Of course none of these details are covered by the Wickes product. The average DIYer without access to a friendly, professional forum like this wouldn't have a clue what to do and probably end up with a shoddy looking installation and no doubt Wickes don't give a sh*t. If they did, why don't they e.g. only sell a product like this with the trim that Battle mentions? And if they're selling to the DIY market why not make it very clear how to attach to the wall?

It seems to be the way now Dafty, I fitted a new ceiling light just lately, the instruction were written by a chinese 2 year old and there were diagrams that made no sense, ya just gotta 'go with what ya know', the L N and earth were easy to figure, fitting it to the ceiling took innovation, Attachment Deleted
