Boiler season winding down now. I dont mind taking in and out plumbing jobs to keep ticking along, like cylinders , tanks ,syphons and taps etc. Got asked to repair a wc constantly filling. Gave the quote over the phone ,subject to viewing. Arrived to find this!! Said To try someone else who specialises in syphons👹and ran like the wind. It was a nice price aswell but me personally would rather busk than do this particular one!! And I dont care if I get called a plastic plumber😂😂😂

How on earth can someone expect a decent plumber to work on that (let alone expect anyone to use it)? At the very least they should get it professionally cleaned before hand.
Maybe one question to add when you get a similar call ".....is it in err...good condition or at least clean..... ?"

You'll not get many takes for that unless they feel their making a packet on it!
I try to only do the work I wish to do as that way they get a good job and I enjoy spending the loot.

When I was an apprentice. i got told by my plumber to unblock a wc. We were stood looking at. By shoving my hand down ,and manually pulling and pushing. i refused. So he offered me a bin bag!! I refused again. He burst out laughing , saying what type of plumber are you going to be? I said id pack in now, if thats what it entails, he relented and put the bin bag over his arm, and dived in😂As I baulked and wandered off another back to the van🥵
I never ever took a butty off him after that!

I had a similar experiance, One of the old guys when I started was Gorden from St Helens, he was a keen rugby league supporter and the ' boot man' at St Helens rugby team, he cleaned their boots after every game, Anyrode at work he never flinched from sticking his hand down a full blocked toilet, no gloves,no bags, just went straight in a reach for the blockage, he never washed his hands either, lunch time would come and eat his cheese and onion butties and still never washed his hands, he was an animal, none of the other men liked working with him because he had no regard for his own health and safety and even less for anyone working with him,
He'll be dead now I suppose if he's not, he'll be at least 100 years old,

I've known someone very similar to this guy tom he would clean out gutters with his bare hands the next moment he'd be eating his sandwiches with the same hand!
Back to that toilet just 3 weeks ago I had a new toilet seat to fit at sheltered accommodation which was close to the wall and also with the "monkey frame" round it, normally I'd move it out the way get some disposable gloves on a bucket of disinfectant in warm water and work from a far away distance as possible.
Late on Friday again and I want to get done and the ruddy "monkey frames" been screwed to the floor with what have now become 8 rusty screws!!!
Nothing else for it I had to smell pee to get the job done - back in the van and I stank of pee and smelled it all the way home until the overhauls went in the bin.
