I think I probably swear too much, gas chat rules are, no swearing, no boiler bashing, no bullying, no racism, well ok I'm not racist but, I'm not fuckin' having an injun gas fitter telling me that ravonheat are a good boiler just cos they fit them cos they uncle sells them in his corner shop, and gas fitters are not plumbers, they are semi skilled certificate holders with clean hands, gelled hair and wear ear rings,

Rules probably prevent non-certificate holders from speaking too and even if they can, they'd probably get jumped on by the boiler installers. "....when did you get your fga recalibrated....?" "....what are you calculations for pipe sizing....."

Gas fittings changed a lot in attitudes since I first started out. Maybe because a lot of money is now involved in getting a gas badge (though not necessary the skills and attitude) at lot of them have their heads a long way up their arses!!
Things could be changing though soon in defining what a competent person is and it may not be all about paying out the money and passing a set test to get a badge to gain access to special club in the future.
S-K-E-T-U-A defines a competent person.
S SKILLS K KNOWLEDGE E EXPERIENCE T TRAINING U UNDERSTANDING OWN LIMITATIONS A ATTITUDE (A GOOD ONE OF COURSE)

there used to be an ' aproved merchant' albeit self aproved, over at screwfuck called hotdog, he was a useful and informed poster, he knew what boilers were selling best and why because he got feedback from the plumbers who came in, he sold up eventually and bought a yacht then fucked off towards the horizen and was never seen again,

Domestic Gas work is fucked, there’s no money in it. Too many course cowboys & career change chancers. The only people making money is the Mickey Mouse training centres & Gas Safe.

Too right Dick but, you forgot about the parts suppliers, They won't take the part back once the wrapper is opened, So Its happened to me where the part has been updated, I can see its differant, so i took it back, After a , we sussed it was updated and I made it understood, if it did't work, I want a 100% refund, Anyrode, it worked but, I'd spend time and money going there and back to make sure I did't lose my money on the part, I quickly found out that, There's no money in boiler repairs, 20 years ago, a universal termacouple, a pump and a gas valve was all you needed for most boiler repairs,There was one gas boiler parts supplier in the North West, now an FGA costing £1000 is essential just to start off. and there are more gas part suppliers than there are good pubs,

From a customer point of view, my experience has been the engineer/installer is much more likely to want to spec out a new boiler than fix an existing. Judging by the cost of straight boiler swaps I'm guessing there's a lot more money in new boilers than fixing old and presumably fixing old boilers requires a much, much higher skill level than installing new ? So the money seems to follow the less skilled which is odd.

Too true! This facia cladding job I'm doing at the minute, I've found the people on the estate are that thick but that rich it's unreal! For example, i've had one doctor and two other professional types ask "what type of paint where apply to get it so shinny", and there's not a paint brush on the job, only a stillage of plastic

I was once doing a burst back boiler for a science teacher at his house when he saw the new copper boiler he said "I don't want that fitting in my house. I'm a science teacher and I know copper melts at 1.085 degrees C, and the temperature in my open fire is well above that"!! I must say that being a young lad and knowing the answer to that problem was a very self satisfying moment in my then young life. Tappy,
