I'm just a DIYer so I hope you get a proper answer soon but I thought you could if you removed the chrome where it goes into the fitting.
Seeing this though makes me glad I use copper everywhere though.

hmv4u>>>>>> The chrome is only a thin plate on the copper. Easy to remove/roughen with something abrasive or a file. Just don't go too mental with the file, you want to keep the end of the pipe circular without flat spots or the grab rings or o-ring in the push fit may not grip properly.
That looks a real quality job. Why did they go to the trouble of using chrome pipe, then attach it to wavy bits of plastic pipe?

another way is to put a groove in the chrome with your pipe cutter,

thank you gents for the replies,so the chrome stops the teeth on the push-fit digging in and relies on the o ring to provide grip ,the toilets are wooden huts and have been up 3 years so perhaps the plastic pipe is better against the cold ? perhaps there is a groove or I presume as long as the pipe is supported and the pressure not to great, the friction must keep the pipe on ?
