some info for dafty, back in the 70's and early 80's all boilers were either open flued or balanced flued, open flue means a chimney, they sucked air out of the room the boiler was in and discharged the spent exhaust up the chimney, Not good because the occupants were sharing the air in the house with the boiler, So Balanced flues because popular, the balanced flue has 2 compartments, air going in and exhaust going out but you needed an outside wall to fit the boiler on because the flue could only be as long as the wall thickness, about a foot, So next development was the fanned flue, This allowed the boiler to be placed in many different locations and also a smaller hole was needed through the wall, Its also more efficient because the air is forced in and this gives more control over the combustion, All the boilers above have been banned since 2015 because they run better, don't break down, cost nothing in spares and don't need a FGA are not efficient enough tell um that over at the do nuts and world war three will break out,

They have to fork out large amounts of dosh for membership of the little exclusive "Gas Safe" club that's been created tom. So you can easily see why they go ape shit when someone tells them the truth about it all.
The government thinking on all this is now starting to change though.

Those are cheap TRVs but are fine! No trouble. Some of the more expensive ones malfunction/ have plastic bit that break. Myson ones seem shite and have to be replaced a bit too often.

Paying out a large amount of cash and passing a test every few years does not prove competence in anything. SKETUA is now said to prove competence. Skills, Knowledge, Experience, Training, Understanding, Attitude (a good one). To say plumbers who have fitted gas all their lives but are no longer competent because they're no longer up to date on the gas safe register is just plain silly.

Last year I complete my ACS training & assessment in 2.5 days. I’m OK, as I’m working on Gas a lot & my job keeps me up to date, but some of the others guys were totally clueless!! It’s just a money making scheme😡😡

always has been, in the early days of acs, they said the only people who could apply were proven time served plumbers and the lesser skilled gas men who know what a yellow flame means, Then on my first acs course and assessment (2001) was a spoon salesman, I asked him why he was on the course and he said, his boss sold everything from spoons to kitchens and conservatorys and a ACS was needed to tell the plumber where to put the cooker, So from the very start, you might have a total wanker holding up a gassafe card to the customer, and they will think he knows what he is doing, Its a total disgrace, I can tell a plumber in 5 minutes of meeting him, gassafe card or not, a quick look in the toolbox will indicate it,
