Hello All I just got these valves home. I think its common now that this valve has two 15mm compression connectors with an adapter piece that goes into the rad with pfte. I was a bit surprised though that the compression socket that the adapter piece goes into is much shorter than the socket on the bottom where the pipe will go. In other words the stop inside the socket isn't very deep at all on one the rad side of the valve. Is it normal/ok ? www.screwfix.com/p/chrome-angled-radiator-valves-15mm-x-2-pack/94103 |

Further to this, I just dry fitted them to get 1st fix measurements. I don't think the thread for the rad is tapered so presumably I should use as much ptfe as will go in.
The rads themselves came off ebay and I'm very happy with them. They came with their own valves which I assumed were going to be crap but they put the Screwfix ones to shame. Weigh about 4 times as much and have a much nicer turning action - also look like a tapered thread. Only problem is they are wheelhead only and I don't want the user to be able to adjust.
Having a hard time figuring out which one to fit .

rad valves don't have tapered threads, I've never seen any, about 10 winds of ptfe is plenty just as long as you wind it clockwise round the thread, Use the heavier,better quality ones, those srewfix ones are cheap and cheerfull,  |

Thanks Tom! The Sfx valves are cheap & nasty so I'd much prefer to fit the better ones but downside is lodger might fully close or open both. I think you've swung it for me though.....

you can change the heads so he/she can only close one, That's the problem. Whilst the nasty Sfx one came with interchangeable plastic heads, this one seems to have a solid head that won't come off. At least I'm a Dafty maybe it does come off somehow but not sure if I could then cover the spindle. |
