in my experience its always been a grinder with cutting disc, then chisel/floor breaker, very messy, hard work and a no no in an occupied house because, the dust and noise will be there for weeks after, suggest you use plastic cladding and hide the pipes in that,

I've laid, and broke up, a fair bit of concrete over time. As Tom says, cut a nice straight line, then clear it out. You could hammer and bolster it, but chips flying off, (hitting all the plush surroundings), ridiculous time and effort needed, is a no no. You will need to dig deeper than 15mm, if you don't want the pipes to chafe and leak.... Tell the customer how it is. If they balk at your recommendation, best leave the job alone. They'll have you making good forever and a day.

For one off use no professional will spend loads on a tool unless the customer pays for it!!

Yes they're a handy little tool. Used one a few years ago. Great for turning everything in the room white! You clean up, and 10 minutes later it's like it snowed again.
