Of course the wife wants the pipework either straight out of the wall like the towel rail or straight out of the floor. Oh and it has to be only chrome visible.
Wall is a stud wall in front of brick so there is space to loop a pipe in there but how the bloody hell would I solder it up there and also also get good measurements. I'm thinking that might be too hard for me. Maybe pex would help but I've never used it before.
So now thinking about traditional straight up from floor. How to get the measurements right? I was thinking maybe I should first hang the rad and maybe even pipe it up dry and then measure up? Then transfer measurements to floorboard, cut holes and fit over the top of the pipes?

Thanks Dafty! Just the sort of question I was going ask! (I can't find the thumbs up emoji) Rad first, then cobble it back to the boiler.

Could you spray the copper/pex in chrome to give her the finish she wants? Would save hassle.

Good job I asked about this first.
I started fixing the rad this evening and then I realised even though I am a dafty, I'm 100% sure the instructions are wrong in where they show the fixing centres on the rad in the diagram. It means they don't match up with my stud centres anymore - 5cm out.
So what do you reckon about this plan? I was going to get very pissed off cutting out plasterboard and sistering a stud but then after some reading around (including Crowsfoot's old post on screwfix which unfortunately links to a broken picture so can't see what he was recommending). But thinking that if one side of the rad is on a stud and the other side fixed with 4x blue gripits (2 brackets each take two screws) that might cut it ?
Rad is 860cm wide, 600cm tall,and is a double.

Did a search on how high to hang my rads and came up with this. Its funny but for a much smaller country than ours, those sheep "rearers" seem to have thought about a lot of stuff. I've come across their NHS equivalent before too when searching for stuff. My grandfather was from NZ - good country I reckon ! www.centralheating.co.nz/assets/resources/Radiator-Positioning-Info-Sheet.pdfAnswer seems to be 15cm plus or minus which I guess most of the plumbers here already knew.

And just to bore everyone to tears (actually I found this interesting) after I bought my grippits I saw this video. Quite good I thought and for anyone who can't be arsed watching it all, the simple and cheap M5 spring toggles held almost twice as much weight as the blue grippits !!!

I avoided cutting out plasterboard one time by locating the studs, attatching a piece of plywood to them big enough to accommodate where the rad brackets had to go so brackets were screwed to the ply which is held by the studs.

Yep I'm also a fan of UltimateHandyman ! I wonder how much of his plumbing knowledge he learned from Tom? Must have been at least some of it over those beers.
Best video he ever did was his wife going up the stairs.......
(first 30 seconds and last )
There was also one with her doing some siliconing but shame I can't find it anymore.
I shouldn't sound like a perv - I'm sure they're a lovely couple!
