So after taking a month to first fix two rads, I've now almost got them hung and piped up. The floorboards are off and I'm going to replace with new floor and paint behind.
Question is should I test properly now with water or leave them dry but untested until 2nd fix time (in 3 months) ? In either case I'd need to take them off to fix the boards and paint behind.
My thinking about not testing them thoroughly now is that maybe they might rust from inside even if sealed ?

Being anal AND unlearned in the black art of plumbing, I'm going to test as I go. Then fall flat on my face when I "think" I've cracked it and blunder on! I'm waiting for a pressure tester at mo, can you pressurise the system and leave it? Then when you come to do the next part, you could drain a couple of days prior. Metal rusts, but that will happen whether your rads are full or empty. Just at different rates. Fill, empty, leave for months, is the worst of your choices.
A real plumber will be on shortly to give you proper advice.

I would defo test the pipework thats going to be underfloor, even the best of the best get unexpected leaks, plumbing bites hard if you let it,

Thanks guys I was gonna test it under the floor anyway but closed valves where the rad would go. Its just the rad itself I'm not sure about.
If the rad has had water in it, do you reckon it would rust from inside if it was then left empty for 3 months ? (while I do the rest of the room)

no it would't rot that quick, but if its giving cause to worry, fit the two plugs on top and bottom on one side, then turn the rad on its side so both plugs are on the floor and fill it with water,

Sorry Dafty, I've just re-read my post, and it seems more scaremongering than helpful!! I didn't mean it that way. I deal with rusty shit everyday, and coupled with a want to get everything right....
This thread has helped me loads though. My EBay seller has let me down, refunded my money, and made me think again... I'm going to plumb each rad in turn/pressurise from the boiler, (like you I can only do a bit at a time), leave it and come back.
Sorry again if I made it sound doom and gloom. Just my view on the worst case scenario. Which isn't that bad anyway!
