I’ve changed two immersions on an unvented in the last few months. I’m going back with a titanium one. Problem is it’s on a bore hole, the chlorine is attacking it You've got my attention here Doc. I'm guessing that the (too much) chlorine is being added because the bore hole supply is contaminated? the bore holes contain high levels of chloride which is a real problem, chloride is an ion of chlorine. Normal immersions are about £40-50, the titanium one is over a tonne. terrible stuff chloride. Not sure there’s much they can do about it

Interesting stuff Doc and thanks for the reply, I've learnt something here which is what the forums all about.
I once got involved with the local water board to clean out a MST (tank) that had had a decomposed dead bird in it (ugggh). They gave me a small bottle of something called hypochlorous to help disinfect the storage tank with. Hence, my question about the bore hole supply contamination.
NB. Ever since I've thought that hypochlorus must be one of the chemicals that the water authorities use to clean up our own mains water supply (to make it drinkable) when it becomes contaminated.
You can certainly taste it at times where I live in South Yorkshire!!

The chloride in the bore hole is naturally produced and not added. I haven’t heard of a way to neutralise it hence the titanium
I’ve a real boring interest in water treatment and system water. I have my own cheap electronic ph tester.

I find water supply and treatment very interesting too. If you've any interesting facts about it Doc post them up!
