Had an evening callout to an old Vaillant that had low pressure. Not a gas engi so if topping up wasn't sorting it they were having a cold night. Anyway, gets there and there's no filling loop, just a brass block between the cold feed and heating return, there was a screwdriver slot between the two connections so in my mind that's the filling point. Opened it up and heard the water coming in, saw the needle move a smidge, then it stopped. No more pressure coming in and needle showing just above 0 bar. There was another ISO point further along the filling block so tried that while first point was open and made no difference. Anyway closed the first valve and had a look round for a braided hose in the old airing cupboard just incase - no joy. Got back to the boiler and opened that first valve again and the same thing happened, a few seconds of pressure and a bit of needle movement. Ended up doing that a few times over 10 minutes and got it up to half a bar so boiler started working. Anyone know why it was doing this?

could be two things, the incomeing water pressure is low or,, you have to turn the hot water income to the boiler off, I've had that on a vailent, where the hot water has to be off, then guess what,,,, I got home and the custerd phoned,,, " we've no hot water" GRRRRR, I'd forgotten to turn it back on,,,

Ah, the old Vaillant in the 80’s was a great boiler, I know of one or two still going strong!! Just pure quality. Get a hold of the MI’s, they’re wonderful. Fuck knows how they got to the pissy drivel MI’s they now have, they’re a fucking nightmare!!
Currently slinging in Vailllant Ecofit combis, they’re overpriced shite. Aluminium heat exchanger, composite hydroblock etc, it’s just an expensive Heatline, except the Heatline is half the price & a better boiler!!
Some cunt at one time must’ve said to the Germans they can make good boilers, in the 80’s yes, but not now. They’re make the same shirt as anyone else.
