About a year ago I got some knippex pump pliers for about £25. All the rabble on donuts forum were raving about them. Maybe I got the size too small but I don't like 'em that much - too spindly and small and each time I pick them up I'm reminded how much I paid. This is what I got: www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0001D9JAII too find that push button mechanisam too fiddly on Kipex pliers - top quality tools though.

Mine are still going strong it proves there are some good cheap tools about. My favourite is the stubby adjustable spanner which Dick found first I believe, use it everyday a brilliant tool 👍

I’ve got a pair of them too Woody, they’re OK, but there’s something about them, too light perhaps? But I just don’t like them as much as the Knipex Cobras

I know what you mean about them being light, Dick. Suppose with the Cobras you know you've got 40 or 50 quids worth in your hand. But I like to travel light as possible - in case I need to leave in a hurry.
No, seriously my tool bag is pared down to the bare minimum because we plumbers spend a lot of time lugging tools to the job, then moving them around the site. My bag is a lesson in only carrying the essentials and any tools used less often stay in the van. I only buy tools to either replace one that's broken or occasionally a new one that has a really good reason for me to part with my hard-earned and knowing that it will actually get good use. I'm far too tight to buy multiples of the same tool to have loads of kit sitting around gathering dust. I'm like a Scotsman with all the generosity removed.

That’s very wise Woody, travel light👍 I try to minimise what I carry too, but you just end up with so much🥵 Someone once said, mark the tools you use daily with tape & at the end of the week remove the rest from your toolbag/box. Gawd knows I’ve tried!!

Maybe I'm expecting too much or just my hands aren't strong enough as I'm not working with them all the time. But I did hope I could use those cobras to grip say a nut or the fitting body on a 15mm compression whilst I crack open the opposite nut with some adjustables. I have to clench my fist like crazy and the pliers still often slip so I've gone back to using a pair of adjustables.

Yes, I like them, Fatflint. Easy to adjust and lightweight. Bahco is always good gear for the money.

never say never Dick, I ordered a thingamabob for the bike, it reduced the voltage on my bike from 36 volts to 12, to power some extra lights I fitted, I waited and waited and after 10 weeks I claimed my dosh back, it was only £2.48 but, better back in my pocket hey ? Well about 6 weeks later it turn up in good nick and I got a free voltage reducer,,
I love a free gift me,,
