I’ve been ripping one out today, everything out, tiles off the walls & floor. The work was ok but it was at the top of a townhouse & im not fit enough & too old for it! Up & down stairs with heavy filled rubble sacks 30 times. Only took 4 hours to complete but I’m done in.
I told my mate I can’t do it anymore. He’s young, fit & strong.
I’m broken!!

yea me too, I used to do site work and these modern 3 story houses are hard work, luggin rads,toilets baths etc, plust the pipes fittings and all the gear to fit them, then tools, I was 50 at that stage, So I took a young lad on to help me, That was a bad move because he was so lazy I had to carry him around as well on my back,  |

yea me too, I used to do site work and these modern 3 story houses are hard work, luggin rads,toilets baths etc, plust the pipes fittings and all the gear to fit them, then tools, I was 50 at that stage, So I took a young lad on to help me, That was a bad move because he was so lazy I had to carry him around as well on my back, Yeah. It’s done me in. I’m 50 in January. I can’t do that. I can do all clearing no problems. It was the stair that’s killed me. |

I'd carried the new pan and cistern upstairs and the old one was on the landing ready waiting for me to carry down stairs whilest he's twideling with his phone. Upon seeing me he demands "I need one more brass screw"! I lost it with him at this point......absolute laziness!!! |

Awe' don't take it too badly PB, we was all young at one time. I can remember arriving at work in 1975 as a youngster full of the joys of learning plumbing and happily wondering what plumbing joys would I learn today; then :- Gaffer, "Your the last apprentice I'm ever taking on". Tappy, "Why"? Gaffer, "because your all fucking useless"!  Talk about instant deflation of mood, we was tough though, had to be. |

that's the thing about apprentices,most of us who are tradesmen have been there and yes there are good and bad and it carries on-we have 3 ,2 are grand and one is useless not because he's useless but because he doesn't want to do it,his high end salesman dad got him a job but he wants to do sales not get his hands dirty - unfortunately he's taking the space of someone that would like to learn and its difficult these days to get rid.
