Ballcock in loft
Do you connect it with tap connector & fibre washer
Or fitting with nut & olive?
Cheers all

Always tap connector and fibre washer, Rocket. Though I have seen them done with compression and olive and the joint held, I don't think it's correct.
Same with fill valves/ballcocks on toilet cisterns.

Have seen compression and olives used several times. It's just me, but especially on plastic tails of toilet fill valves, I don't think it's the best idea to be forcing an olive into the plastic. Much better to have a flat fibre washer making the seal. But others will probably disagree.

I've seen it done on rare occasions too, even on sink taps once. Perhaps the plumber was short of 62s at the time and decided to give it a try.

In my early days my first gaffer never would buy tap connectors so we used nut and cone on everything, ball valves taps and toilets, Untill the dreaded plastic toilet ball valve, then he shifted to tap conns and fibre washers, the modern way now is flexi's on everything, It's evolution taking place, they all work well just go with the flow,,

When I've got the right one for the fitting then yes, however, they're all not all interchangeable these days. I made a the apprentice a grommet out of PTFE today because we didn't have a fibre washer anywhere!

He would also have me scraping old molten solder from lead joints and running it into angle iron to make a thin stick of solder to use for capillary joints. Different world back then wont it tom?

tightest gaffer I ever had was Jimmy Shepherd, If you were putting gutters up, he would not give you a box of screw but, count them out to the exact a mount, Whe I asked for a few spare, he said no, if you drop one you won't look for it but. if you only have the right amount, you will have to find it, basterd, in those days gutters were done off ladders, so it could be a bad day if you dropped any,

That all made me laugh !
Given me an idea though. Next time my thick-as-pigs**t brother in law is over and has been told to "help" me, I'll maybe borrow that tip from Mr Shephard

That’s tight.

Fiber washer and I can't recall the last time I've ever been to a leaking fiber joint but still get weeping nut and olive now and then.
