So without trawling the Internet does anyone know off hand what hands on experience you need to do your ACS etc.
I went on a boiler swap last Sat & also another tomorrow
More watching & skivying at the mo but that's ok with me.
It's something I'd like to look into.
Thx
Rct

In short , you need to get a full time job working with a company that only does gas work as you will need to build up a checkable portfolio / log book that needs to be signed off each month by the engineer your working with , this is not an easy thing to do as most companies are very busy and only want to employ trained engineers , but if you can do this then that is a major benefit to you and will aid you immensely in passing your ACS exam and becoming Gas Safe registered , be prepared to work for next to nothing while doing this and depending on how quick you can soak up all your training and demonstrate your competence to the assessment inspector , this may take you 12 - 18 months to complete , also a word of warning for you regarding these so called FAST TRACK training companies that advertise that they can train you and get you your qualifications in 6 months , they can not do this it's a load of bullshit , if you go down this route you will end up severely out of pocket with nothing to show for your efforts , be careful and only use a bona fide training provider that you can check before parting with any money , maybe all this sounds a bit overwhelming but if you do become qualified you will have a good career and should never be short of work , well not until the gas fields run dry.... : )

you need a proven experience with a gassafe operative such as your mate, he can write a letter saying you're the dogs bollocks to a training provider, with that they will gladly take the money from you to take the training and assessment, expect to pay £1.5K at the very least to pass, then apply to gassafe, its another £250 for a assessment from them, then if your up to it they want the yearly subscription plus regular checks on your work, at your expence, and when they are satisfied you're up to it they send you a magazine every month and you get a badge to stick on your van, They've built an industry for taking money from honest working people to do their job, short word,,,,,,Mafia

Thx Rct I think you would benefit from building your confidence with general wet works plumbing for a while rocky and slowly as the confidence builds move forward more. That's no disrespect towards you rocky I'm just going by the fact you admit to getting stressed and so on.

I also think that it's only a matter of time before the plumbing trade goes down a similar root in having to register work (after all no one wants their wholesome water contaminating by an unregistered person)!!
