Totally agree on replace rather than repair. This particular valve is out of my shower at home and I'm a tight git🤫 sometimes can be a pain to get splines that are compatible with shower head. Or height differences with the valve 👍

Yes! Had a drippy shower valve in my place 2 years ago, took it out and brought to the supplier, he said oh we don't do spares for that anymore you'll have to replace the entire mixer shower unit!!!!! So, I went back home with the cartridge and scrubbed it clean/descaled it, put it back in extra tight. No drip since! Some suppliers are full of it!

.hi all, are these valves serviceable? Does the red rubber washer have anything thing to do with the water seal? Of course you could sell the spare parts on ebay to fund the replacement cartridge!!

That’s the problem with valves it’s the splines. I don’t think I’ve ever had ones from screwfix that have fitted.

I keep 2 sets of poofix 1/4 turn valves in stock, I'd say 95% of cartridge replacements are done on first visit with them, only the obscure ones (often Carron Pheonix/Franke) leave me needing to shop around or go online. I'll have a look in my order history and see which ones they are. I steer customers away from brands that purposely use carts you can only get from them at inflated prices, I actually took a customer-bought Carron Pheonix tap back to the shop and changed it for another brand after showing the customer the price of new carts, tap was £110 new, replacement carts were £80 a pair + £20 for brass shrouds + delivery charge of about £14, so more expensive than the tap...
edit: Found the stock valves I carry, they're items 1908F and 2611F at poofix.

Get yourself into a proper old school plumber's merchants, Rocky. I'm lucky in Bristol because there's a merchants that's been around as long as people have had plumbing. Knowledgeable blokes behind counter (not usual counter rat), and plenty of assorted spares.
Or there's always Lunns if you're not in a hurry and can wait for mail order.

I carry the 12.99 Amazon Franke cartridges for the fine spline jobbies and charge the customer about £20 for them. Order direct from Franke and they are a fortune.
