Thinking about investing in a cable/pipe/stud finder anybody got one got any recommendations? mostly want it to find pipes and cables so it would need to be good for that

I'm not sure what the modern ones are like mate but I had one of the very early ones and it was shite, not much help really was I.  |

Yeah i heard a lot of the old ones where shite but one of my worst nightmares is overboarding a wall or shelving a wall etc (something where you are screwing all up and down the studs) and hitting a pipe and not noticing till the next day when everything is fucked hahaha (paranoia) so wondered if anyone new of any improvements

I have one of these , a Stanley fat max , although i very rarely use it when i do it seems to be pretty reliable , i think i paid £40 for it but there are plenty different brands on the market at around this price mark , just don't get one of those cheapo £10 ones as they are useless... How does it do for finding pipes and cables mate? I mainly use mine for finding stud work to fix to but it does have a AC and red indicator light for live wires , and it gives the exact center of them , i dont think this model detects pipes or metal but there are different models for doing that , i suppose the more money you pay the better they get , but for general use this ok for me..... , a mate of mine who is a shopfitter as got a Hilti one that is the dogs bollocks but it cost near on £400 |

yeah i saw the 4/5 hundred ones that look amazing but im not spending that much hahaha cheaper to hack open the wall and have a peek hahaha
