I’ve got a good strong plunger but the rubber head is a little bit small for the hole. It works & ive not failed to unblock a toilet. If the toilet is full to the brim it can get messy
What do you use? Empty pop bottles are an idea but not when the toilet is full.
My method that seems to work is plunge first, then hot water poured in, plunge again, then a little one shot, wait a few mins & plunge again carefully, then if needed more boiler water & plunge.
Cheers all & sorry for the toilet talk.

no apology needed rocky, this is a plumbers forum and toilet talk is welcome , Perhaps I;ll write a book and call it,life in a shit house by Rod Ineye, chapter one, The fishing plumber, rods for Angling, rods for plunging, Anyrode, before i learned the bottle trick, My first thing to try on a blocked toilet was a mop because, It saves you a walk to the van, If it gets full of shit, its not put back in the van to smell all day, your hands are well out of reach of the shit, It often works first go so its quick, Put the mop in the toilet pan and roll the handle round a few times to form a bung with the mop head, then jab it down the outlet a few times and usually works,

Yeah I’ve heard people use mops. I’ll Try that, long handle will be good of full pans.
Cheers

Is it safe to look out from behind my hiding place now with all this blockage talk ?!! 👻no thanks , not for me. , I even got told once by a female employee in a factory” What type of plumber are you? that doesn’t do blockages!”as she proceeded to unblock a wc, She then said “I bet you don’t go camping either !” I said of course not😂 ( as I was writing out the bill, to her boss as she had it unblocked in no time ) maybe she didn’t know there’s good money in unblocking wcs, as she loved to get stuck in for free,by the looks, but to be honest I got called to a water leak , if it was a wc blockage I wouldn’t have gone😇

glowbug you are a boiler eng/techo , the new breed of our industry, When I was a lad ( I hate saying that ), we did everything, lead, copper, iron, weathering, drains, tiling, glazing , we did our own brick patching, plaster patching , working off ladders, working from planks stretched over two pair of ladders and calking cast iron joints with molten lead, All illegal now, a plumber then was the SAS of the building industry, the trade has now been broken up and we have today , in no fixed order, plumbers who do plastic only plumbers who do boilers only plumbers who do sanitary specialists who can do copper and all above super specialists who can do lead and all above and super duper specialists who are all too old who DID it all, We were heros and everyday was different and a challenge, I don't regret one minute,,

Yes I do like the easy life Tom, but in my defence, I remember my yts spent ripping down cast iron guttering and replacing with plastic( I think I was cheap labour on a council contract!) but loved every minute except when I was up a 5 metre triple extension ladder ,and my plumber hoisted me & the ladder off the ground ( for a laugh)and nearly dropped me with a severe lurch to the left😹you could hear my screams on the moon, but We laughed and it was character building for sure🙀😹

I charge good money for toilet & drain blockages. Sometimes it’s only a few minutes on site.
I had one of my wife’s work friends ring yesterday, blocked outside drain since Christmas Eve, sent pics, water everywhere & must’ve been stinking. Only round the corner from me, BUT she’s a divorced big fat indian, I knew what was coming & warned myself wife who she was speaking to that I wasn’t going for peanuts.
Lo & behold after I told her my first hour cost all went quiet!
She obviously wanted if for free.
I’m not that tight & would’ve sorted it out for family & good friends but people I don’t know I draw the line.
I could’ve done with the job too.
Cheers all

H&S had deemed because we carried potable fittings on our vans we couldn't carry any soiled goods. Risk of X contamination they reckoned - so we were also plumbers who couldn't unblock things.
