Sorry for creating 2 threads back to back but I would very much appreciate any comments on a stainless steel sink recommendation. As usual, after reading around for hours, I almost talked myself into this: www.screwfix.com/p/franke-ascona-inset-sink-stainless-steel-1-5-bowl-1000-x-510mm/37197That's a lot of money but if it says "FRANKE" in clear letters on the top it pays for itself when the estate agent (or lodger depending on what we do) comes around..... On the other end of the scale I found this: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Stainless-Steel-Kitchen-Sink-Inset-1-5-Bowl-Reversible-Drainer-FREE-Wastes/202358705257Looks ok. Presumably thinner than the franke one but does that matter once installed? Then I read at the bottom of the description "Please Note: Fixing kit is not included" . What is the point of that? I don't need to get the cheapest possible but I don't want to waste money and would like something that is not too difficult to install and might last longer than a few years. I'm pretty sure I want stainless steel and probably 1.5 bowl. Any thoughts most gratefully received !

I don't rate Franke stuff at all, as far as I know, they're the budget half of the company with Carron Pheonix being the expensive side. Their taps rarely use servicable cartridges and from my experience when you need to get a new tap cartridge you're paying £70 instead of £5 for replacements because they don't use standard ones. I'll avoid Franke and Carron Pheonix because of this. Don't you have a local plumbers merchant? I got my 1 1/2 bowl black resin sink with an overhead mono that has a switchable flexible spray head for about the price of the Franke sink you posted, I think it was £180 in total. Also with stainless steel sinks the taps wobble and a high tap would be a bad idea unless you pay through the nose for a much thicker sink than 0.7mm.

Here's a pic of what I got for about the same price of your Franke sink. Attachment Deleted

For SS sinks have a look at the range in Howdens. I’ve always found them good quality & value for money.

But don’t give Howdens your personal details or they’ll hound the fuck out of you for the next 12 months. I had it, they used to ring me constantly asking when I was going in to buy something, in the end I told them straight, fook off.

Only trouble I'd have with Howdens is they only like trade.
Hadn't thought about tap wobble - thats a good point and definitely won't be going for a tall tap plus will pick as thick steel as possible. I've seen some sinks that are 5mm !
Franke. Hmm. Sounds like one of those companies that produce crap but are still fashionable. Or maybe they aren't even that anymore? Need to look on mumsnet.....
Anyway, don't like the idea of paying top dollar for crap so might take a risk on some no-name brand off ebay - just go by the pics, dimensions and steel thickness. I got my shower tray like that and I'm very happy with it (even survived an acro prop falling on it...)

Interesting that one. Certainly looks nice. Shame they don't tell you the steel thickness. Also odd the holes aren't pre-drilled.

Yeah no holes a bit odd..... I think you're one off ebay was a good price though.

Just realised should these sinks have overflows or do they not need them as water could flow from one bowl into the other? Many/most don't seem to have overflow holes.

I stick £40 onto the price of fitting ikea sinks, the wastes are awful and weirdly sized - probably Scandanavian standards. Look nice but a bastard to fit.

Anyone ever have any experience of this cheap stuff? www.lidl.co.uk/en/p/bathroom-essentials/miomare-mixer-tap-or-kitchen-mixer-tap/p28705
