Went to a woman, blocked drain.
Ok, riddled it & cleared, only from Kitchen so not nasty nasty business, she had her kitchen moved & since then where the put a new soil pipe it blocks every 6-12 months.
Now, after I cleared it I poured buckets of water into the chamber, it runs to the next manhole about 6-8 meters away but then without forward motion water just stays in the chamber & doesn’t empty.
There’s no blockage, it’s clear in the pipe. The next manhole is clear as per the pic.
I’m thinking there’s not enough fall on the pipe to the square manhole. It’s a straight run of about 5-8 meters. Any thoughts?
The patio will need to come up but there’s no other choice I don’t think.
Anyone good on drains?
Cheers all

You are right rocky, its a drain problem, either the ground has sunk or, it was never installed with the right fall, Could be a massive job if you can't achieve the fall from manhole 1 to manhole 2,

I think the job is ok. Just dig down etc. Can you tell me how I get the pipe into the square manhole? Do I just knock a hole in it? I might find the issue once it’s dig out as you say, ground sunk or something else. We won’t know until it’s dug.

to join into the square man hole you'll have to grind out a section of it and place you drain in, then cement it back up, But, and its a big but, if the full man hole is lower than the clear manhole, you will have problems getting a fall, then you're in deep shit,

Just done some reading on this the fall should be 1/40. 1/25 is also suitable. Interesting. I’ll do more reading!

The new chamber is definitely higher that the old one. I reckon I can get the pipe at least another 100mm down. It’s a definite goes & it’ll be a good job. I’m only dealt with kitchen water too so not completely nasty. Cheers Tom.

Get it all cleaned down and flowing then work out if it's what you think "a fall issue" by pre checking it with drain rods with a rubber grommet on the first rod in.
If it grabs or jams significantly you'll know its location of the obstruction by how many rods a in use from the point of entry.

Rodding today with a plunger tool on the end was all smooth right out the end to the square manhole. It’s definitely not blocked. I’ve given the woman’s price. The blooming patio is the hard work on this I reckon. I’ll let you know if the jobs a goodun. Fingers crossed as I’d like to get stuck in.
