They're replacing the gas main supply pipes near to where I live and I've been having a snoop around. Before, the old iron piped gas main, it looks a bit rusty don't it? Attachment Deleted

After, The new gas supply pipe. Which is now connected up via a new ferruel to the gas main. Note the new gas supply threaded through the old rusty iron service to save digging up the driveway. Attachment Deleted

they have a mole as well, like the mole in thunderbirds but its remote control There's a lot of that moleing work being undertaken up in the North East but it's mainly water pipes and there doing it like Tappy noticed, back through the existing old supply. The workareas are massive, whole estates and they manage to keep the pavements relatively intact - saves plenty time and there quick too.

An amazing machine. I knew that they existed (I've never seen one in live action though).
They did another hole in the driveway near to were the gas main enters the property from which they must have connected it up to some new iron pipework because that's what you see inside the property connecting it back up to supply the meter. It's a shame that they filled this hole in before I could take a snap of it hence making it a trio of underground gas pipe photos!

They did my mums road & others about 5 years ago. The meters were in a cupboard in the rear hallway. The old main came under the houses & up.
They said they couldn’t thead it through & couldn’t mole it.
Most people just had a new gas main going through their rear halls to the front halls which looked shot.
I had a big rumble with them, it upset my mum but there was no way a 28mm has like was going to be on show through the halls.
So I told them it wasn’t happening. They threatened to turn the gas off plus other things.
In the end they put it through under the floor.
Who wants a great big pipe going through their house.
You see some shocking new gas runs on the outside of houses these days.

We had all the pipes from main to meter done the same way in our street about 9 years ago. Very clever how they feed a new run of plastic through the old iron pipe. Obviously no elbows or tight bends in old pipe. Our meter is in middle of house under stairs. They fed the plastic pipe under house straight to meter. After they finished, there was no evidence that they had ever been there.
If they could get the pipe under half the length of our house, don't know why they would have a problem going to the back of Rocky's mum's. Suppose they wanted quickest/easiest route without worrying about what it looks like.

The whole street & other streets, hundreds, maybe thousands of houses.

On Lead Water mains replacement about 28 years ago, we Moled a lot of supplies into homes, saved a huge amount of digging. If we didn’t mole it, we had to hand dig it, which was a right bastard & fucking hard work!! Made fantastic money at the time though👍👍

Do those sorts of jobs still pay good money? Or has the influx of Easter Europeans stopped all of that? Seems lots more people chasing any jobs these days.
Talking of jobs - was in a pub the other day (no surprise there). Fit looking bird went up to the bar and asked to speak to the landlord. He came to see her and she asked if there was any bar work going. He said there may be, and asked her to drop a cv in. FFS! A cv for a barmaid's job! Nuts.

I’m not involved in contracting now Woody, so I wouldn’t know. A lot of ‘sausage rolls’ & Lats went home after the crash in 08. But I still know a few, some sausage rolls I’m quite friendly with & they are all good guys.......very fit wives by the way 😍😍 That keep lovely clean homes👍
It’s funny their kids are all Jocks, strong accent & everything!! Polish kids are very good at sports by the way & we need them for both our Rugby & Football teams!!
