You're making the same mistake that I made this morning in my posting which is you need a 11/4" BSP to go onto that 1" thread DD.

Outside diamter of the thread is confirmed at 1 and 1/4 inches (well its specified as 32mm which is near enough)

This fitting should get you onto 28mm copper www.screwfix.com/p/compression-adapting-female-coupler-22mm-x-1/50777Ptfe and boss white wrapped around the pump threads will be a must and wrapped thickly around the closing threads closest to the pump. Could be a plumbing oddity pump you've got there DD or could it be the new thing for ch pumps? Good idea to give us a comparison with that 28mm olive Sorry tappy I somehow missed this earlier. Ignore my earlier plea about how to seal - thats great advice. And roger the fact that its not yet certain whether I need a 1inch bsp or 1 1/4. I defer to the plumbing Titans of dickpuller and yourself to confirm. I'm leaning against Tom's fantastic offer because a/ I don't want to put him at any covid risk even if I pay for postage and b/ I'd be happy to see the back of my pump valves so a small coupler would be preferred if thats possible.

If you use those adapters on the Chinky pump, do you need to alter the original distance between the pump valves?

I'm not sure about that one Woodie, I think the reason for them are to use the pump as a normal pump or convert to a valveless system but, I'm just guessing

Could be none of us Dafty!! If it were 1 1/4” BSP it would measure 1 1/2” outside diameter. But hey, it maybe not a BSP thread??

Confusing stuff eh DD, this plumbing lark! If the male thread is ?" then the female thread will always have to be 1/4" bigger than ?" male in order to accept the smaller male thread (makes sense don't it?). Or am I just digging myself into a even bigger hole here?

I seem to have got confused yet again. See if this video makes more sense of it, a pictures worth 1000 words. Thanks a lot for that. I'm in no rush so still haven't decided what to do and can't get out to merchants or sfx so will leave it for a little while. I'll hopefully post back when I've got something. As for your kind comments, I am definitely a DIYer and definitely NOT posting to test your knowledge or something stupid like that. I'm sure I've posted up some of my dodgy solder work a year ago which is proof of my lowly diy status! "dafty" comes from my ability to overthink things and have limited common sense.

Just for clarification regarding OD sizes of BSP threads, parallel not tappered. Any Male thread above 1/2” BSP will be 1/4” bigger than the BSP size. eg; 1/2”BSP will be 3/4” OD. 3/4”BSP will be 1” OD. 1”BSP will be 1 1/4” OD. 1 1/4”BSP will be 1 1/2” OD. Etc etc etc.....
Stay safe, stay at home & go out as much as you like. Stay at home & go fishing or play Golf👍 Stay at home & visit a Garden Centre. Don’t visit Scotland as you can do exactly as detailed above. So, if you’re stopped by the Rozzers just say you’re going for essential shopping down the Garden Centre!!

THe good news is Tom's adapters arrived today (thanks again Tom !) and I think I know how to seal against a pump valve (with a washer).
The bad news is I'm struggling to see how they seal against the pump. They screw on ok so maybe just some gunk in the threads? As far as I can see the washers that came with the pump (pictured inside the adapter) won't work becvause I think the pump valve won't reach them as they screw on to the larger piece of the adapter.
