The Siam Monaco that I’ve now replaced is working well but... The brass connector that goes into the tap connector is leaking a little bit, not much but a slight weep. I’ve been there today & taken it apart, I can see that whoever fitted it had cross threaded the 1/2” part. It won’t seal 100% & I’ve tried ptfe, lsx, paste, loctite & a combination of all. Still a slight weep. The problem is the brass shank goes through the cistern in 3/8” then enlarged to 1/2” so I can’t push it through to get it out. Does anyone know if the part in the pic with the o ring comes off the shank? I’ve tried but it won’t budge. It’s worse on the cistern as there’s no space to get a hold on it. The only other option I have it to try to cut the 1/2” part off as that will allow me to push it out but there’s no space to work & it’s all tiled. Yes, lovely job!! Any thoughts? I’ve told the LL straight up, maybe it needs a new cistern which will probably be the easiest option to fit. They’re not expensive at £70 odd quid. Cheers all

It is well known that I know jack shit about plumbing Rocket! My tuppenceworth; Unless the LL is paying for the call outs, change it. Change it anyway, life is too short to drive yourself mad with jobs that can't be repaired. Easily. And yes, whilst there is a great satisfaction getting a job sorted without replacing, sometimes it is the better option.

One day the penny will drop, it took me years of pissing about and wasting time but now if I see a job like that I stop and tell the customer the bad news. I still find myself occasionally struggling when ripping out and re-doing would be the best/easiest/quickest option, but it's usually for an old dear who I want to keep the price down for. Don't forget - you're the expert, the customer called you to do the job because they can't do it and you can, if your experience says it needs ripping out then that's the way to go.
