It could be a couple of things, the diaphram in the boiler, or a restriction in the cold main to the boiler or even a cartridge problem in the taps,
firstly what boiler is it ?

Surely if the boiler work ok it had to be in a pipe or a tap
When you turn the hot on in the kitchen does it run? No water? Runs but cold?

Kitchen runs cold. Shower runs cold. Boiler doesnt kick in.
But if I run kitchen tap then turn another hot tap on then kitchen tap starts to run hot. ( I only need to put the other on for a few seconds).
Its as if it just needs a boost from another tap.
I tried increasing pressure in boiler but it wont go up. Cant get it into red even if I wanted to.
I think I have your number somewhere Tom, if not will get it off Ian. And cheers.

There seems to then not be enough pressure on the hot tap
I’d say it’s a boiler issue, pipework problem maybe
The other tap allows the boiler to kick in

Thanks Rocket. Any advice on getting a new boiler? Im in a funny situation really where I rent a house privately from a useless landlord that I havent heard from or seen in about 6 years. Im thinking I would need his permission to put a new one in though. I do get some benefits ie working tax credits. Not sure if this makes a diff regarding getting a new boiler.

I’d tell the LL you’ve got problems & go from there. You pay rent, LL pays to fix things.

yes , I'd agree with Rocky also about ,its the LL duty to make sure your house is up to standard, there used to be a facility for free new boilers to people on benefits but I'm not sure about it now,

Mate, here’s a link to the ECO scheme, it gives you some information. I’d contact my Gas Supplier & ask about the ECO scheme. www.ofgem.gov.uk/environmental-programmes/eco/about-eco-scheme
