Chap has changed open vent to combi
He’s saying the salts in water softener aren’t going down
I don’t know about them
Are they compatible with a combi?
Cheers

I've only ever come across a water softener once in my entire plumbing career. It was fitted on the feed for a big industrial oil boiler and we had to carefully move it down some steps without disturbing it too much (this was our mission statement). Extremely heavy it was too. We was using a chain wrapped around a metal girder above to help us get it down the steps. The chain snapped instantly as soon it bore the full weight of the cylinder and the whole thing crashed straight to the bottom of the steps landing with a huge thud! We just looked at it speechless for a while as it lay at the bottom of the steps and we all though to ourselves that we was lucky there. It would have crushed anybody stood at the bottom of those steps for sure. Zeolites is a word that I remember from my collage days of doing about water softeners. Sounds to me like another rocky special job, you be careful....how do you keep finding them? Tappy,

there's not much call in the Northwest for softeners either, We don't get a lot of hard water problems, I,ve seen them fitted but, never paid much attention to them, when ever anyone asked for one, I would ask " why do you want one" it was usually a ' keep up with the Jones" or a salesman has recommended one to me, It was never, the kettles furred up or the immersions are burning out and stuff that a softner might help with, So I never fitted any,

I fitted my own softener here (down south). Water is very hard here so kettle, shower, sink, everything gets covered in limescale. Being brought up in Manchester I used to hate the taste of it here but now I like it. There is a bit of "double glazing salesman" about softeners but if you fit your own its not too expensive. However, I'm still not sure its worth it. Down sides are: a/ it primes itself every couple of days and uses a bath full of water in the process. We're on a metre. b/ buying shed loads of salt c/ remembering to check the salt d/ every time you drain down the CH you're supposed to fill up with water straight from the mains. I usually remember but not always and its a pain. e/ water in the shower is a bit slimy. Takes longer to rinse the soap off. f/ its a big box and takes up a lot of space Hmmm, why did I every get the fker? Maybe I'll get rid.....
