They do and I think they're quite popular. And no doubt that £200 cost adds more than that to your house value or at least pays for itself.
I got mine to free from my old job as I was "testing" it.

Surely the new owner of a property can’t access the Nest, does the previous owner need to confirm access etc?

Good point Dick. Bad enough having bank accounts, computers, etc. hacked, having a disgruntled ex-owner turning the cold feed off whilst I'm showering would piss me off!!

while its not a nest/hive ,I have recently fitted a wifi thermostat in place of a 'normal' wall thermostat for my old gas c/h - the only thing I didn't realise was the thermostat display only comes on when the programmer sends out 240v during the 'on' period,as this means it sits there blank most of the time rather than trying to get a cable the length of the house I ran a feed from a nearby light switch-probably in breach of regulations but hey that's me-cost about £30 from amazon and you can alter the temp either manually or via your phone and apparently set it up to alexa/google www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07HQCW5JY/

you'd be surprised what the hackers can do I can understand how he got the camera password as that would just be the default password supplied - the owner or installer didn't change at install so that's naughty. However, Her password must be super easy for the home router!
