Here’s a question I was asked that I couldn’t answer.
How long does a 250 litre unvented cylinder take to heat the water from a boiler?
I’ve got a combi so I have no idea.
The chap is trying to set up his timer.
Any experience?
Cheers all

i would say average of 20 minutes in summer, Winter will take longer, If you needed an acurrate time, A BTU is the unit of energy it takes to raise a pint of water 1 degree in F, So if you boiler's output is 50,000 btu's and your hot water cylinder is 30 gallons, then the variables are, heat loss through pipework, temp outside, is heating on, Then multiply X by Y add a % for how hot you want it to be, add vat, average is 20 minutes from cold to 60 degres,

Cheers
I’ll tell him to set his timer for 45 minutes in the morning & see if that’s any good. It’s a 250l cylinder but only him & his wife.
Cheers all

Some of the beard stroking, so called, Plumbing EngineerImg Ponces are now advocating Hot Water Priory. Where the HW is never off, so you’ve cylinder full of HW 24/7.

Basically they’re talking shite, we just don’t use enough HW in 2020 to justify their claims. Another thing, they didn’t like it when I called them a bunch of useless wankers, I think I’m banned, fucking cheeked???!!

If I put mine on for 3/4hr, I get a large hot bath, and washing up. I by-passed the timer years ago, so need to remember to turn the trip off...
Getting pissed, and waking up in the early hours, sweating, groggy, and a giant kettle boiling away isn't great...

Ahh but it won't be boiling away. It will groan like an old woman. How do I know? When we moved in 10 years ago their cylinder stat had long broken. Woke up in the middle of the night thinking the place we'd just bought had ghosts....
Next day I realised cylinder stat was broken. Presumably the temp never goes above the flow temp from the boiler ?
Out of interest why did you bypass it? Was I being a dafty for doing the opposite ?

It pretty much sounded like boiling as it vented into the cold water tank above Dafty. I meant timer, not thermostat. A few beers last night... beer drinker Have edited post.
