Hi all I know this is going to be a simple question. So can a 15mm tap Flexi female end go straight onto a 15mm compression coupler or iso valve someone told me that they can split the rubber and can cause a flood. I know they do flat faced isolation valves but don't think they have been around that long. Cheers

You see it done many times without any problem's, however, they're not really designed to be a flush fit. I once worked with a plumber who would always file the thread end of taps to make them flater in order to take the sharpeness off them so they don't dig in and split the fibre washer on the tap connector as he tightened it up. Perhaps he had a leak once due to the washer being split and this was his solution? Plumbers like everyone else develop the're own style over the years of doing things (you don't get it from a yes or no plumbers manual)

File the sharp edge off the 1/2” thread & it’ll seal OK. But go easy!! It’s a rubber washer & doesn’t need 36” stillness to tighten it!! Think of it as a shower hose, hand tight & a wee nip up👍

Cheers all. Yeah I don't over tighten them and I use them adaptors that fit into the isolation valve that turns them to a flat surface.think I'll just start fileling them to be on the safe side when I have ran out of adaptors like today. Cheers

I don't like doing it because the edge of the compression fitting thread could poss cut into the flexi's rubber seal. I use the proper tap tail adaptors for the job. Plain end goes into end of compression coupler/iso valve using the fitting's olive and nut. Flexi screws straight onto the other threaded end of adaptor.
They do 2 sizes - 1/2" and 3/8".
Do a proper job, me!

That's what I use 99% of the time just ran out of the adaptors so used couplers instead.

My rule is finger tighten then a quarter turn, if there are no weeps, no signs of water, its good, if the is any slight sign of leekage, another nip up, it it gets worse or no better, get the right fitting, most of the time it will be ok, just check, double check, then check again, use the tissue test, wrap toilet paper or paper hanky, wait 10 mins, if its bone dry, you're good to go,

Don't forget you can use a radiator tails into your isolation valve for a nice flat fit against rubber washer👍
