Managed to sneak into the training center today and filmed this short video of S plan wiring as promised. Good use of trunking there. Apart from looking neat (and I could be wrong) but I thought if cable is within reach, it needs to be protected such as with trunking. Obviously flex to an accessory is different.

I'm unsure of the electrical regs on this DD, however, the wires to pumps, cylinder stats, motorised valves etc' are always dangling down and unprotected by any trunking. I guess it would make maintenance a lot more difficult on them if they all had to be trunked up.
There's a mains fuse box in there too which I could open up and have a look into, it's always interesting to see what it's like inside a mains fusebox?

Nonmetallic-sheathed cable shall be permitted to be unsupported where the cable: (1) Is fished between access points through concealed spaces in finished buildings or structures and supporting is impracticable. (2) Is not more than 1.4 m (4 1 ⁄2 ft) from the last point of cable support to the point of connection to a luminaire or other piece of electrical equipment and the cable and point of connection are within an accessible ceiling

I'm not sure on regs too. But I understand it that permanent cabling like T&E for light and ring circuits, etc should be clipped/trunked. something like wires to motorised valve, pump, cyl stat isn't regarded as permanent wiring. Otherwise we would have to clip/trunk wiring to the tv and toaster.
But what do I know!

That's what I thought. Isn't the difference that t&e cable is one thing and flex (like to the MV etc) is something else? Maybe the flex is better protected ? Its also guaranteed to be clamped into the accessory (MV etc) whereas cable might not be clipped even though it should be so could be pulled out of say a juncgtion box? Just guessing.

I’ve not seen the cables put in trunking on many installs.

If the flex is supported within the enclosed termination point there's a get out clause but if not the felx has to be secured with 12" of its termination point.
