Hi all Anyone use lsx instead of bosswhite / hawk-white as a jointing compound on compression fittings.. I have a tube in the tool bag but always find myself reaching for the usual pastes.

I use jet blue
Lsx is good stuff though
Turns into rubber
Not cheap for a little tube & once opened it tends to not last long

I like the same as Tom, the Hawk White. Used to use Boss White, but unless you use it quickly it was going hard part of the way through the tub. Was thowing a lot of it away.
LSX is an emergency, get you out of a fix thing for me. I only use it rarely when nothing else will seal. It would be expensive and unnecessary on all olives. The BG lads used to use buckets of it. When I went to a job where they had been it was all over the place. They must be on commission and using as much as they can to lash the jobs up.
Also try not to spill Boss, Hawk, etc down the front of your trousers. Otherwise it looks like you've had a messy hand-shandy in your lunch break.

Plus £7.50 shipping I also use LSX only if I'm really struggling to get something water tight. Its probably papering over the real problem but if its the end of the day, and I'm pissed off and want to get the water back on its my go to compund. I hate fernox water hawk and the other one is not for potable water. If I've got a load of plumbing to do in the future I'll try the jet blue if I can get some. Am I right that for brand new fittings you don't need any compound - or shouldn't need any?

I always slap some on the olive. Bit of extra insurance to fill any imperfections, but some don't bother. Just the way I was taught and always been ok. Always use copper olives too. Brass ones are too hard so they go in the bin.
