The only ones that I've come across/fitted are the normal 11" ones (they look a bit different because they're Italian made).
Tip, it considerably helps things when draining down to disconnect the h/w distribution pipe from the top of the cylinder as well as opening all the hot taps.
As your working on the domestic side of things I'd say that you where OK legal wise tom.

You're not interfering with any of the safety devices so I can't see why not. Infact the way I read the rules is that you can't charge for working on unvented unless you have the ticket. So do it for free and just charge £100 carriage on going for the element
