All 10mm plastic pushfit behind walls and easy fit bristan kitchen tap,19 in total!as I'm going around I'm removing these taps and putting lock tight on the grub screws. If/when they blow off, I know the bastard's will say "you were the last one to touch it"π€π€ I use Loctite 243 (Blue) on smal grub screws as I find the grub screws aren't releasing with 272 they round off!

View AttachmentView Attachment....Rush job, new tenant moving in tomorrow and I was told to remove all flexi's and a small dead leg under sink, no hot works aloud! saw a easy option chop dead leg slap a drain off on the end with a Tectight sprint, wham bam thank you mam!don't know why,but it started playing on my mind on the journal home, the drain off will slip out the fitting like chrome does! I've got a set of keys so I've went back tonight and switch mains off to flatπ I got the two fittings ,in photo, from van and pushed them home and pulled it out with ease! Did some research and these fittings need there own special drain cockππ I believe I was contacted from the plumgods today, looking out for meπππwill fit new drain off in morning before the new arrivals π isn't plumbing great πππππ The worst thing you can do with Push Fit fittings is to use an old fitting that's been rattling about in the back of the van. Dirt and crap will get into the fitting and can stop the grab ring from biting into the copper. I speak from experience as i brought a ceiling down in a customers house when a fitting blew off at 3 am. This was six weeks after I'd finished the job. I inspected the pipe and I could visually see where some of the teeth had pulled off the pipe and scored it and some had not.

The downfall of those JG type is that you have to remember to tighten the locking nut on them.
Mainly it's the DIYers that don't realise that you have to do this, however, a plumber in hurry can always all too easily miss one!

Oh Push Fit fittings, used in abundance on any New Build Site. Seen numerous blow-offs & never known any manufacturers hold their hand up & say βyeah, it was a faulty fittingβ. Though, to be fair itβs a lot to do with poor installation, in fact in most cases itβs poor installation. Not uncommon & on HEP2o, which I rate as the best, for a fitting to leak 3-4 weeks after itβs all been tested(16 Bar for an hour) heat on etc. Fortunately Hep has the Grab Ring first, so itβll leak, but very rarely blow-off.
Normal reasons for leaks; Not push fully home. Tube not cut square. Damaged O ring. Damaged fitting. Incorrect tube in Hep fitting. No insert fitted in tube. Wall of the tube scored, so O ring will not seal. Etc etc etc....
Donβt use Polyfit or Polyshit as we call it, dreadful stuff. Had 100βs of blow-offs with it.

Got me thinking dick, our place like to use Tectight, they see it as a way to crack the whip on us,"should have done that job by now with those fittings and bendy pipe"anyroad, With chrome you have to score the pipe with a special tool,as we all know. Well why not score normal copper tube for extra security of these fittings? Or would the manufacturer not like thatπ€ I personally would fuck all push fit off if I could,Gotta move with the times I guess π¦π¦π€

So if you score the pipe you damage the oring on application so how do you win with chrome using push fit?

Sounds like you could have saved them a fortune in damage from floods.
Only thing you want blowing off is Olive's sister.

I don't use loads of push fit but when I do it's generally John Guest or Hep. In some areas of plumbing it's a god send - especially in reactive plumbing works. I think if you use them right you won't have any issues and dicks fault list with them is spot on.

Only time I use speedfit is as a temporary cap on a pipe I'm working on. Not quite true - the power shower came with speedfit fittings but its Mira so should be ok....

It leaves a neat line in the chrome, but like you say the o ring has to pass the score mark and could Nik the ring! I've never had any troubles "yet"π¨
