during the late 60's to the late seventies, I knew loads of would be rock band/duo's/singers who were tradesmen and local, The labour clubs, workingmens clubs and social clubs were rife round Wigan and they all had entertainment on from thursday to Sunday so, opportunities were abundant for anyone with stars in their eyes, Some big name came out from them, cannon and Ball , Little and large, showaddywaddy, Bob Mcclintock , mike Harding and many more,

That's true the club scene was enormous in the 60s/70s/80s and many of the stars honed their talents in the clubs before making it big and it's virtually all gone today who would have ever thought that back then? This guy however thought playing the clubs was beneath him and made a major bid be a pop star.
A plumber who currently works the same place as I do recently told me a story of a drinking partner he made on holiday in Tunisia and after a few evenings drinking with him he revealed that he was a Wurzel (remember them?) and not to tell anyone else (I have no proof and he could have made it up or been taken in himself).

Maybe not in Scotland, Dick - but us Carrot Crunchers down south couldn't get enough of them. Cockneys had Chas And Dave - us yokels had Adge Cutler and his band. Couldn't get enough of Brand New Combine Harvester, Blackbird I'll 'ave ee, etc.
Drink up thee Bucky doesn't have the same ring to it.

We had an ' almost made it' group called ' the long and short' a group and their record got in the charts in the 60's and even made it on the music program, Duke box jury, Sadly did't have enough sales to make them famous but, They got good attendances in the local clubs and made a living out of music but that was all, The main singer was still singing up to about 5 years ago but now is in a home with dementia in his early 70's, very sad,
