I think I've misunderstood the question I thought you was making a joke about using a black iron BSP fitting on mains water supply E/F.

If you look at the tail of a pair of taps it is ground out to accept a nut and olive just like the end of a ballofix, I think this is a waste of time because I've never seen it connected this way.

Have seen taps and the occasional toilet float/fill valve fitted with olive instead of fibre washer. Seems to work, but not sure that it's the correct way to go about it. I imagine that screwing an olive into a plastic shank of a fill valve is asking for the plastic to split.
