They definitely click into place leeks.
Trial & error & it might settle itself down.
Have you replaced the rubber washer on the bottom?

They definitely belong in the "seemed like a good idea at the time" category of plumbing fitments!
Dick mentioned the overlong flush-pipe preventing the plunger seating inside the flush valve which is a classic error to make.

Well touch porcelain I think its settled down. One problem was as usual my fault in that the flush valve splits up so that it can fit through the flush panel hole and I noticed when I had it out it is quite easy to connect it on so you think its fully on but it is isn't and the O ring not pushed in all around. That had the symptom of a lot more water going through once the water got to the height of the join.
As what Rocky said, by playing with it a bit and mess around it seems to be ok now. THanks to all and especially Battle with general help and Dick with some good ideas I hadn't thought of.
Didn't fully understand the long flush pipe issue but surely even these days Grohe could be trusted to get that right ?
I didn't use silicone in the end - would be a last resort. Wouldn't it wash off after a few weeks?

Lube? "10 minutes in & out"? Cash changing hands?
Exactly what kind of 'service' were you offering, Dick?

It's the fitter who'll make that mistake dd. An overlong flushpipe will go right inside the the flushvalve itself and if it's proud of the seating on the flushvalve this will then prevent the washer from seating because it's making contact first with the overlong flushpipe that's preventing it seating. Easily solved by shortening the pipe, though one to watch for if your hurrying and about the place (yes, I've done it myself ). Glad it's all sorted now and another good tip from Dick for us to try!

That's long enough for him to collect his £210 plus vat and scarper though....

It doesn't sound like a permanent repair to me dd; more like a *get you away quick* trick (which is sometimes just what we all want).

When you’ve only got the Letterbox behind the Flush Plate to work with, you need to be a bit inventive!!
Currently fitting Dudley concealed cisterns with Flush Plates, they’re a load of shit, endless problems😡😡😡

Well looks like Grohe are going to send out a replacement part based on my pics.
Good news but mine has settled down so not sure I want to fiddle with it any more. Need to think...
