Hi, first time posting. The air vent on my Ximax Atlas radiator has had a slow drip for a while now, but getting worse. If I close off both feeds (there is a thermostatic valve and a lockshield valve), will that allow me to replace the air vent plug safely? I'm weighing up whether to tackle this myself or get in a pro? Is this a job for a DIY'er, or might there be hidden problems? Thanks for any advice!

It's a fairly easy job to do. Do as you said in turning both radiator valves off. Then turn the air release valve to relieve the pressure and catch the spilled water in a towel before undoing the plug. I'd wrap some ptfe around the thread first but you'll be OK with just the rubber ring seal.

Thanks for that, crowsfoot. I'm going to give it a go.

Further to my learned friend: there’s a high chance that a 22mm socket will fit the air plug, which makes the job easier👍👍👍

Just been to Wickes for a replacement, and swapped it over.
Thanks Sir Richard, that 22m socket tip was handy, as it's in a corner.
Surprised at how much water came out, after closing both valves, from the top couple of inches of pipework.
So far so good!

I normally would, but it was only £1.60 from Wickes (and included a bleed key and a separate 1/2 inch blanking plug)!
