Evening All
Who can educate me on what route to take for requesting the gas main and meter to be repositioned on a customers home. It not a smart meter if that has any bearing.

only the supplier can do that, contact them and they will send out someone to survey and quote, Then you need a gas registered installer to connect to the new meter but be warned, they will fit a smart meter,

Is it an external Gas Meter & Box? Yes external half sunken type to be replaced with a wall box type. The move is about a meter to the new location.

I’m getting my tailed pulled (run around) by the gas provider with pages of requests for info so i decided to get on and expose the job to see what can be done without involving the paperwork brigade - I feel if i expose the buried incommer back to the customers drive it will become a nothings the bother job so we’ll see tomorrow when i finish digging.

The paper shufflers run the show battle, They sit in an office and its their job to complicate the operation, they need to prove their worth and making it hard for everyone, The actual guys who do the job will take 1/2 a day, the paper shufflers will take 3 months to, plan , do searches , get permits , phone calls and letters, meetings with one another, business lunches, agree contacts with the subbies, back handers to ' smooth' the workings and under dealing the , hole digger, hole filler, tarmac supplier, tarmac layer etc etc etc, in short,,,,red tape,,,,

I know companies that do on-site Utility Services can also do these alterations. If you know anyone working on a New Build site(l local to you) get them to ask who’s doing the Gas Services there?!

Would someone with a commercial gas ticket be able to do this job Dick? Very unlikely CF. I’ll check GS ticket requirements & let you know.👍 As an update, it appears to do it legally you need a GIRS Licence. This is a good wee guide; www.northerngasnetworks.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2017/07/1378470704.pdfIts not a difficult job & I know of Engineers doing this type of work as a ‘cash in hand’ job on the side. It would consist of squeezing off the existing pipe, extending it & relocating the Permali Box.
