Does anyone leave the drain valve open when refilling a system for 5-10 minutes to push some air out?
Or is it a waste of time?

Not something i do, I fill and hope for the best, then later if things are not happening, I will open a drain off below with a hose pipe and some times it will help but, not always, air locks can be a right twat, you just have to try filling, My method, turn on, fill and bleed the bottom floor, then the first floor and cylinder, sometimes it goes first time and other times, it takes all day,

I was just looking at trying different things to save time. I’ve got another one on Monday I’ll see how it goes

Avoid draining Open Vented systems if you can. Bung it, don’t drain!! If it air locks, ensure the Cold Feed from the F&E tank is clear. It’s always the main suspect!!

Avoids spending hours chasing air locks & blocked pipes👍👍

Sometimes I refill vented systems up backwards with a hose on the drain off and connected to outside tap. Have the the tap running gently and slowly start bleeding the rads.
