Went to a overflowing toilet today and the overflow was running into a bucket, It had the old bottom entry ball valve in plastic, They said, we're fed up of emptying the bucket every couple of hours, I informed them that the overflow should go outside, thats what if for, On futher inspection the wall is in the middle of the house so thats why its never been installed, So I quoted £200 to install the overflow pipe and sinking it under the floor, Too much was the reply but, how much to stop it over flowing, £60 I said for a flowmasta valve, they are reliable and should last a fair while.,So off I popped to shitfix ( 2 mins away), bash bash bang, done, packing up my tools and the water is gushing out of the overflow, ,,,,how the fffffffff is that happening, switched off the water at the iso valve, checked the flowmasta,, all seems ok, Turns the water back on, checked, checked and double checked, flushed it time and time again, all seems ok but its in my mind now, Why did it fail that once its sure to happen again,

A bit of dislodged crap stopping the seal then it found its way out? Could have changed the flush valve for one that overflows into the pan and blanked off the old overflow spigot, although that would probably have been too expensive for them too

Isn’t regulation any flush from September 2000 atomically over flows into the pan so cheap flush and a new fill valve would of been my choice or the least amount of work.
Never had the fill valve miss behave like that Tom put it down to the newness!

I did think of that battle but, this was an old toilet with a old syphon and not screwed to the wall, so I'm guessing its silicunted back, wing nuts underneath were rotten, This guy was looking a cheap fix, so he got one,

I have seen overflow pipes connected into flush pipes by a great number of various unorthodox methods (before it was permitted for them to overflow into the pan). Even crushed and poked into the back of the toilet seat before. Hope that the new valve was just a teething in problem tom, nonetheless it's the sort of thing that plays on your mind. I've only had the tools out once since I retired so far. NB I once diverted a feed tank overflow pipe that was discharging into the bath into a modern W.C. cistern that overflowed into the pan. Hence, the next time the feed tank overflow runs it will fill the cistern via the overflow pipe and then overflow into the pan via the modern flush valve! I had to have a bit of a chuckle to myself thinking about the next plumber sent to mend the WC overflow when he takes the lid off and sees water entering the cistern via the overflow pipe .

At least it’s not overflowing now. What can you do with if they only want the cheap fix?
They’ll be back onto you do do it properly but you’ll have you feet up with a price of £250 to sort it out.

So after 5 days and no call back, I'm beginning to think it was just a ' flash in the pan' and I can begin to sleep better ( touch wood) , Anxiety gets worse as you grow older,
