....under the sea.
Now I know I'm not likely to find anyone here who has put down pipes that big but surely the principle is the same whether its a 1inch pipe or a 48incher? And in any case most people here will know more than me so here are my questions:
1/ How TF could you repair that pipe (talking about the Russian/German pipeline of course). You can't lift a section out of the sea, repair that and drop it back down again. Use a bit of Denso tape haha (but seriously its an interesting technical problem)
2/ Why did SO much gas come out? I mean isn't the isolation valve on the Russian side closed ? I guess there's a fair bit of residue gas in the pipe but surely would stop after half an hour or so ?

Deep sea divers will go down & weld it or replace the sections. If they want it fixed that is

Didn't realise you could weld in water?

Can be welded wet - actually in the water - the arc boils the water creating a protective pocket. Or "dry" in a diving Bell type affair. Main requirement is big balls.

Me granddaughter ( 20 years old) said she wanted to be a welder on the deep sea gas / oil lines because its good money, Its good money for a reason, lots can, and do go wrong and, when it does, you just can't swim up, you need to decompress and, god only knows what that, does for the years to come, I told her, keep thee feet on trara ferma lass, you're a pretty girl find a knight in shining armour MUG to keep you and enjoy life,

Yeah, they weld underwater pipelines. They’ll Dive & fit repair clamps is the reports I read. My Journeyman worked as a Pipefitter after I finished my time. He worked everywhere, but started in the North Sea platforms.
They’d cut & fit pipes, Tack Weld pipes & fittings etc & the Coded Welders would finish the job. The Welders would also Dive, but there was guys who’d just Dive.
He always maintained that any kind of Diving would fuck up your Brain & anyone that Dived was literally crazy! But they made a fortune, many owned big Spanish Villas. Flying into Aberdeen for their stint Off Shore.
