View Attachmentbattle, today I had a look at the folder on heat pumps that I was given from the course I attended around 10 years ago. View Attachment it's quite boring stuff really, however, here are a couple of the more interesting bits from war and peace . Well if there that good (and those data sheets are rather impressive) the system should be installing them yet I’m see new office blocks still opting for gas boilers - why i wonder?

They seem to believe in their own publicity don't they. A bit about unvented systems that I found tucked in the same folder that could be of some interest to the forum.

Interesting you should mention Offices battle dear boy. I’m currently reading & viewing information on large Air 2 Air systems: Air Conditioning/Heat Pumps.
The methods we use for these systems in the UK differs from across the Pond. We have a more Zoned/Divided system in buildings, which makes it more efficient. Whereas in North America, they have huge Air Handling units on roofs.
It appears there’s several advantages to these types of Air 2 Air temperature control systems.
All interesting stuff for my Heating Engineer’s brain.

Still thinking about installing aircon in time for next summer. Have I got it right that the unit Dick linked to is both aircon (cooling) and a heat pump (very marginal warming ) ?
Are all aircon units like that - the split kind that you see in southern europe etc? I'm thinking I could keep my gas CH and mostly use this for aircon in the summer but as a bonus save a bit of money having this thing running 24x7 in winter?
As you can see I don't get this new tech at all.

We are all learning as we go along with this technology dd. All heat pumps can cool as well as heat, the unit just as to have the capacity to be able to reverse the compressor inside the heat pump although in the UK they don't seem to be built this way. This is from the short course that I did 15 years ago from a tutor who just seemed to waffle on - saying that he understood the units but not the plumbing side of them (which could be THE problem with them). One plumber I know told me a story that he was once called to a heat pump that had gone faulty into reverse. The radiators were ice cold and condensation was dripping off the exposed copper pipes inside the property whilst the GS heat loop was red hot! I don't know if this is true or false? The air conditioning units are separate single units which can do both heat and cool at the flick of a switch. I know someone who had one fitted and said it was brilliant although he kept having to have it re-gassed and various leaks repaired every time a heat waves struck. Sorry that all above is second-hand information to me dd. Tappy,

Howdy Dafty, The one my son had installed does both very well,It heats the house in Winter and cools the house in Summer, I'll get a link from him for the make/type, I remember it was $8000 Canadian dollars about 3 years ago which then was roughly £5000 English pounds,

It controls the Room Temperature & you have a Remote Controller for it. Have a look on Utube, there’s loads of videos on them👍👍

Ach Dickie, it’s a link tae the Telegraph dear boy. Jist says these heat pumps winna work in auld peoples hames ( probably coz they’re on a limited income ) 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Quick edit ( ye’ll love this dear boy) It also mentions the governments decision to move over to hydrogen gas for boilers and how Centrica are digging up roads to install plastic gas pipes so the ( hopefully by then) “cheaper” ( aye it does say the price “ might” come down as technology to produce it gets better ( a big assumption right there) In the immortal words of Private Frazer “ Wur doomed ah tell ye,,,,,,,, doomed.”

The only question I've got is will there be a "HydrogenSafe" company with the ability to decide who can fit hydrogen boilers and the ability to charge what it likes for certification?
I have a nasty feeling the answer is yes.

I have a nasty feeling the answer is yes. Of course luv!! We Plumbers will be at the forefront of any scheme!!…..As always, we have the Public’s best interests at heart, oh & our Villa in Spain to maintain!! Reminds me of an apprentice Plumber saying to me once; ‘Dick, I don’t want to be a a plumber no more’. My reply; ‘Ah, you’ve found a better way to make easy money, where your services will indefinitely be required for the rest of your life, in every home in the country?’ He thought for a minute & asked what job to do next. This young man has now got a Four Bed Detached house, no mortgage & drives a lovely top of the range Beamer. The moral of the story; Plumbers are always flush!!

I have a viewpoint on plumbing that differs from Mr Pullers. Me old gaffer would always tell me that plumbers will never be on high wages. His reason was that we have to work inside peoples homes and if we were on a high wage our customers wouldn't be able to employ us!
I found battles links with the air pumps very interesting which do seem to back up what my customers and tenants were telling me about air pumps over the last 15 years of my working life (loved the simplistic explanation about ashp using compressed air to heat our homes!)
Just watched another Mr Tiff video that only reinforced my belief that plumbing is really another word for struggling.
If you fast forward to 21:26 you will see what I mean!

Mark Tiff does great videos & has only recently started👍 A couple of things regarding his UVC install;
Why did he only fit a 90Ltr Cylinder? I’d fit at least a 120Ltr with twin immersion heaters, this would give them cheaper HW on a cheaper Tariff. They’d also have the other immersion heater as a Boost.
Why not Tee into the D2 with the Cylinder Drain Cock? I wouldn’t use a shitty MT cock!
I don’t think you can connect the EV into the filling group?
If Mark had any New Build experience, he’d know the Elson HW tank would’ve been fitted before the Cupboard Door Frame.
But hey, every day is a Skool Day for us all.
