Hello
In my hallway cupboard I’ve got the old gas pipe- steel.
2 pipe in fact, one for the meter & the other for the supply.
I want to cut them at ground level so I can utilise the space as her indoors has shoes stacked high!
What’s the best thing to fill the pipe holes with do you think?
They’ll never be used again.
Cheers all

Assuming the other ends of both pipes are open and redundant, then your only looking to keep vermin out so whatever mastic your using would be my first choice.

It’s the old gas pipe & old meter that was removed.
The new meter is outside & the new gas run goes in the house on the first floor.
The 2 old pipes are where the meter was & supply pipe to house. 1960’s council house build.

I remember once doing a similar job for a mate at his first house (so it's quite a while ago now ). He had an old disused gas pipe sticking up in the front room from where a gas meter once was and wanted it taken out for the carpet fitter to fit a new carpet. I just unscrewed it out of the floor so maybe you can do the same rocky (save sawing through it). It'll be tight mind you - big Stilson job!

Make extra extra sure the pipes are redundant. Once you are sure they are redundant, be ready for them to be live after all.

You could shove some wire wool down and then top it up with expanding foam to keep any air out. The mice don't like wire wool but they'll eat through the foam on it's own.

As I said new supply pipe was fitted about 6/7 years ago on the great Transco upgrade where they wouldn’t mole the pipes so the new gas pipes are on show.

Not saying anyone is stupid. Seen a couple of jobs where sensible people have cut through a gas pipe that they were sure was dead. They were very excited to find that it was being back fed from a joint they couldn't see.
The best one I've seen was in the block where I live, heard shouting and screaming one Saturday afternoon. They had shut the ecv and cut an iron gas pipe in the lounge ceiling with a grinder. Turned out the pipe was somehow linked to the flat above and they had no way to switch it off.
You might not be stupid but what about the guys who worked on that system before you?
Good luck.

No other gas appliances in my house now. I know where the pipe goes as I did the install last year. Definitely no other appliances 100% 👍
