Bloody hell! Well at least on the first one you could say Barewood has made every effort to keep all the pipes on show. Who did that I wonder? Here was my rad before I removed it today. Now need to cut it in half somehow to get it in the car. EDIT: This one is 225cm and the new one is 180cm so pipework has to come in about 20cm on each side. Attachments:

Nice job DD, very professional. Like the new valves they're much better than the screwdriver slotted ones. It looks like you've gone for one of those new generation of self regulating pumps for which I've never (quite possibly now shall ever) fitted. Thanks CF ! Very pleased so far as its virtually silent. As you both say it knows what the flow rate is so I think can be put in a mode where it tries to keep the same flow rate regardless of how many rads/HW are open. Is that what it does in that modulating mode? I dunno I've left it on 1 or 2 for now. The "venting" function without a vent, is actually quite good on my system - I didn't know but it just sends pulses of very high pump pressure over a 10 minute period to release air pockets. Don't know how it knows there is air in the system but it will show a dedicated error if it thinks there is air. If it’s a Wilo Yonos Pico Dafty it does have settings on the Left of the Control Knob showing the setting according to your size of Home. The top settings are to use it as a fixed head circulation pump. The Right hand settings are for UFH. For energy savings I’d use the settings on the Left & it’ll modulate the Flow. It’s the Circulation Pump I’d recommend, so you’ve made a good choice👍👍 PS The 1-6 is the 6M Head 130mm Model.

Those pics are from an empty house near me, I was asked by a potential buyer for advice because the surveyor had recommended a new boiler, The seller had argued the heating was in good condition, needless to say, The buyer backed out after my suggestions , anyrode Dafty, I see your predicament with the rad in question, I would line the new rad up with one tail going straight in as it is now and adjust the other side with extended rad tails, www.screwfix.com/p/1-2-bsp-male-x-15mm-compression-radiator-valve-tail-65mm-2-pack/10954

I know some would say changing a pump is dead easy and maybe it is to a timed served plumber like on this site but I always respect plumbing work. That's how I started plumbing My ex had a cousin working for BG maintenance and our central heating stopped working. He came and had a look and said the pump was gone and told me how to change it. Took me ages compared to how long it would take now but he said that would cost £300 if he was charging BG rates so I enrolled at plumbing college and the rest is history By the way, how much did the 3m of 28mm cost? That one you used an inch of

Free because I had it in the garage - just cleaned it up a bit with some wire wool.

That one you used an inch of Oh it’s a fantastic Trade & if you’re switched on, you can make a good living at it. In the 70, 80, 90s it was like the Klondike. Us old farts were the Council House generation & it took us some time to get rich. But we learned Marketing & Accountancy quickly, became evil capitalists. Loadsamoney!! When Maggie sold off the Council Housing stock, it was Licence to print money - Bathrooms, Kitchens, Central Heating & Double Glazing. You could easily make £5K profit from an ex-Council house. But now, Domestic Plumbing & Gas CH has been killed by the Course Cowboys & Career Change Chancers, they start a business & it’s just a job for them. They’ll never make money at it.

And that is why I'm so cautious about getting in people I don't know to do work.
I might get lucky and get someone like many of the people on this forum. Those who do a good, solid job and charge for what the job is worth - no more and no less without hiding bodges behind floors and walls. Or I might get someone like Bearwood who is just useless. Or a "course cowboy" - I take that you mean someone inexperienced who might be 10 times more likely to condem my boiler and want to replace it than say Tom. Or, I might get a more interesting cookie like Dick. Knows how to do any job to a high standard but will he do my work to that standard and would he charge double or offer a discount for offering to "check" my wife's chest of draws?
I'd rather not roll the dice.....

I'd rather not roll the dice..... Oh without question, I’d be diving into the Knicker Drawer in a heart beat!!! See Dafty, you need to pay for reliability, knowledge & experience with Tradesmen. That’s where we get it wrong in the UK, the unsuspecting general public don’t know what they’re getting. Boilers should be like cars, only a manufacturer’s Registered Engineer should service it. For Plumbing & Heating everyone should be Licensed

DD for me you do a cracking job just keep on going, slow and steady. Remember the golden rule don’t buy cheap cause even the experts won’t work with shite products.
