I was one of Maggie Thatcher’s Yuppies!! Setting up a business in 1979 as a fledgling 21YO, which coincides with her rise to power. After starving in the 70’s Winter of Discontent & the strangle hold of the Communist Unions, we were a force to be reckoned with. The working class Torries, ready to make serious money. The 80’s for me was a steep learning curve, in both my Trade, business & life. Working 7 days a week & loving it, you felt invincible & seeing the money roll in was breathtaking.
Maggie sold off the Council House Stock & these new home owners wanted CH, Bathrooms, Double Glazing & Kitchens. It was the Klondike for me & my Joiner pal. Loadsa Money!! Then there was 90% Local Authorities Grants for improving Tenement Flats. Everyone was up to their neck in borrowing to improve their homes & we were separating them from the money, as fast as we could😂😂
With a Stock Brooker on speed dial, we ‘Stagger’ all the nationalised Public Owned companies being sold off, making huge returns. Guzzling down Champge & on our ‘brick’ mobile phones, I slept in my Office & did high paying ‘call outs’. I recall not going home for 3 weeks, walking in & handing my then wife a load of clothes to wash. Telling her to straighten her face & stop moaning, she was minted!!
PS Chapter 2 on request.

A general public view of the 80s there Dick, however my own personal view of the decade was one of personal greed and a "Oh, I'm alright Jack" attitude right through society.
The Tories were most unpopular for the first few years of the 80s. It was a total devastation of the jobs market has Britain's big industry was shut down. Without the Falkland's war I'm sure that Mrs Thatcher would have been gone and long forgotten after the parties first 4 years in power (with a good riddance from most of us). Certainly the highly favourable redundancy packages from the late 80s did put out a lot of wealth out into the towns and cities (still does, though it's running out now).

Also we don't make very much anymore. All the cars etc are foreign owned and if they pulled out we'd make nothing. Even our big power and water companies are foreign owned these days. Privatising BT was a good move IMO but water and railways? The free market works best when there is healthy competition but who is going to be daft enough to try and run competing MDPE to homes to offer an alternative supply? Who is going to run new railway tracks next to existing ones? Nobody.

The clowns in Edinburgh bought out Scotfail, brought it into public ownership. The useless SNP cunts are morons. Of course, it’s also useless, delays, cancellations & strikes. I can get from Edinburgh to Stevenage cheaper than from Glasga to Edinburger. Fucking shambles!!!
Any nationalised company, all the ‘workers’ are just lazy bastards. Broken Arrows, don’t work & you can’t fire them!!

I agree that something had to be done to get the country out of all the strikes that we were having in the seventies but I do disagree in that shutting down the countries heavy industries was the answer to the problem.
