“As my company have started fitting heat pumps to try and keep with changing times, I’ve seen that Octopus energy are offering heat pump installs supply and fit for sometimes as low as £3000. They then offer the tariffs and service plans to go on top, one customer in the heat pump Facebook group has said even the Octopus energy surveyor admitted they make a loss on the installs. How can we compete with companies monopolising the game already? The last install we done came to around £17k. I understand the art of selling yourself to get work, and that’s what I’ve always done and it’s proved successful, but it does beg the question of what the future of our industry is going to look like as the transition of gas engineer to heat pump installer gets more popular. Interested to hear opinions.” I stole this from a Installers’ FB Page.

Really interesting program on the beeb about heat pumps last night www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/p0fzltvd/what-they-really-mean-for-you-series-1-2-heat-pumpsDicks favourite company Octopus get a mention about their bargain priced installs and British Gas are sniffing around too. It would seem that the UK government offers one of the lowest grants to subsidise the installation of an heat pump. Apparently in Germany you can get £16k towards an installation of your heat pump! Could be the main answer to my question in this thread? Would have liked to have seen more on the unsatisfied people who have had them fitted just to see what they have to say to these tenants and not just that knobhead of an MP who was highly satisfied with his! Also how some work almost as good as a gas boiler does, whilst next doors HP doesn't seem to work half as well!! Different people have different expectations but is this "the difference in peoples levels of satisfaction of heat pumps" all down to this? Would have loved to see the so called experts answer the questions that were put to me when I was working on them.

Initial progress report as requested: On the plus side, almost free heat late at night which is great. Not expecting it to last into Winter obvisouly. Negatives so far: I think I've found out why nobody is installing air to air split aircon systems instead of air to water heat pumps. I've got 4 installed now - 3 are coming from just one HP. I'd post a photo but I can hear Mr Puller pissing himself so would rather leave the external ducting to the imagination. Suffice to say if they were at the front of the house I'd probably need planning permission
