Ah the old Chemicals debate!! Stick a Gallon of MB1 in the expansion tank & it’ll be good for 40 years!!
Without question Sentinal is pish!! IF??!!......you feel the need to use chemicals, use Fernox or Adey products.👍👍👍

Is there a school of thought that says don't use them? That'd suit me but I do know the water round here is very hard.

Oh very much so Dafty!!.......There’s many factors to consider with CH system water & many of the manufacturers of the Snake Oil, claim their chemicals cover everything, which they clearly can not. For example; the PH level of Tap Water in your large gaff dooowwwnnn soooooufff, is obviously going to be vastly different from mine in Puller Towers, in God’s Country. So how the fuck can they produce a chemical that covers the whole country???!!! And by the way, a Sealed CH System is 100 times better for retaining clear system water. The Germans love selling Boilers to us Brits, but hate our methods of filling CH systems with Tap Water. Their preferred method of filling systems is practically like filling it with Distilled Water. In my view, clean your existing system water with magnetic fillers & minimise the amounts of chemicals you put in it. I’ve drained down CH systems a year to 18months old, that have been treated with Sentinal & they’re manky!!! Is your system open Vented Dafty or sealed?

It too gets nasty after only a year or two. It being 40 years old doesn't help.

The washing up liquid trick used to stop boilers from Kettling and it worked well.
Someone once told me that the inside casting on iron heat exchangers could be very rough creating little air pockets inside the HE causing bang, crash, pop, boom, noise when the heating came on. The washing up liquid would create tiny little bubbles inside that stuck to the rough edges on the internal casting which in turn silenced the boiler.
Modern boilers are very different now and the era of kettling boilers and washing up liquid has passed us by, but yes it was once a big thing in my generation of plumbers.

I wonder how much this company paid to be able to use the once mighty Corgi branding?

However, you could fit an Intergash boiler, seal the system & run it at a low pressure👍👍

Everything decent is expensive now Dafty.
You can get cheap but it won’t be much cheaper.

What is low pressure? Less than a bar? Can it run like that?

Yup, under 1 Bar luv. A professional Heating artisan like my good self can solve any Heating problem, you’re paying for the experience & knowledge. However, if it’s DIY, it’s always a botched job!!
